How much does Shopware development actually cost

"How much does Shopware cost?" isn't one number — it's at least five, depending on what you're actually building. Here's each of them.

“How much does Shopware development cost?” doesn't have one answer, because it's really five different questions wearing the same sentence. A storefront using Shopware's default data model and a fully custom B2B build with three ERP integrations are both “Shopware development,” and they cost nothing alike. Here's each project type broken out with a real range, not one number averaged across all of them.

Project typeTypical scopeBudget range
Standard Shopware 6 storefrontConfiguration-first build on Shopware's default data model — sales channels, payment/shipping, standard theme customization$6,000 – $15,000
Custom Shopware developmentBespoke checkout logic, non-standard pricing rules, or catalog structures the default model doesn't support$15,000 – $50,000+
Shopware plugin developmentA single custom plugin, built on public hooks — scope, complexity, and Store submission requirements drive the range$3,000 – $20,000
Headless / composable ShopwareCustom frontend against Shopware's Store API, with SEO parity engineered in rather than assumed$25,000 – $80,000+
B2B Shopware buildTiered pricing, quote workflows, multi-buyer accounts, and B2B Suite configuration or extension$20,000 – $70,000+
Ongoing maintenance retainerMonitoring, patches, minor fixes, and monthly reporting — scoped to store size and ticket volume$500 – $3,500 / month

What actually moves the number within each range

Inside any one of those rows, three things push cost toward the top or bottom: how much of the build is configuration versus custom code, how many integrations (ERP, PIM, CRM, tax, payment gateways beyond the defaults) are in scope, and how much QA and post-launch support is included rather than billed separately. A storefront quote that looks unusually low relative to others is almost always missing one of those three, not offering a genuine discount.

Migrating instead of building fresh?

If you're moving an existing store to Shopware rather than building new, cost is driven by your current catalog and integrations more than by the platform switch itself — that's a separate calculation, covered in full in our Shopware migration cost and timeline guide, with our migration checklist alongside it if you're scoping the project yourself first.

How we quote this

We don't quote a fixed price off a first call. We scope against your actual catalog, integrations, and B2B requirements, and tell you which row above your project actually falls into — including when the honest answer is that you don't need custom development at all. Our Shopware development services page covers what we build once scope is confirmed.

Frequently asked questions

Shopware 6's open-source core (Community Edition) is free to license. What you pay for is development, hosting, and — if you need them — commercial extensions or Shopware's paid editions (Rise/Evolve) for larger merchants. The cost ranges here are entirely development cost, not licensing.
